[BREAKING] #EndSARS protests: Buhari appeals for calm, orders IGP to reform squad

Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo; the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.); and Inspector General of Police, Adamu Muhammed

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has intervened in the ongoing protests against brutality and extortion by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

He also directed the Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, to reform the FSARS.

He gave the instruction during a meeting with the IGP on Friday.

The president also appealed for calm in a series of tweets after the meeting.

your solution to make wealth in one week with one good video

He tweeted, “I met again with the IGP tonight. Our determination to reform the police should never be in doubt. I am being briefed regularly on the reform efforts ongoing to end police brutality and unethical conduct, and ensure that the Police are fully accountable to the people.

“The IG already has my firm instructions to conclusively address the concerns of Nigerians regarding these excesses, & ensure erring personnel are brought to justice. I appeal for patience and calm, even as Nigerians freely exercise their right to peacefully make their views known.

The president’s intervention is coming a few days after hundreds of Nigerians took to the streets in a wave of protests against police violence that have left two dead.

The PUNCH reports that one protestor and one police officer were killed on Thursday while another sustained life-threatening injuries during a protest in the Ughelli, Delta State.

On Friday, protestors gathered peacefully in Lagos; but in Abuja and Osun State there was violence.

The movement initially targeted FSARS, widely accused of unlawful arrests, torture, and murder, but has since broadened to include all police forces.

The FSARS unit was earlier suspended on Sunday from routine patrols.

Several Nigerian celebrities have expressed support for the movement.

Gombe gov begs Buhari to begin oil exploitation in Gongola basin
ON OCTOBER 9, 20205:43 PMIN NEWS
By Johnbosco Agbakwuru, Abuja
Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, yesterday, at a closed-door with President Muhammadu Buhari, appealed to him to prevail on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, to begin oil and gas exploration in the Gongola basin.

The Governor also urged the President to come to the aid of the state in order to resettle the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, as a result of the Boko Haram onslaught and the ravaging flood that has affected two local government areas in the state, displacing people and creating gully erosion.

Speaking with State House correspondents after the meeting, Governor Yahaya said that oil and gas exploration in the area would trigger economic activities and create jobs for the states in the region.

According to him, “With the discovery of oil and gas in Gombe and Bauchi states, and specifically, in the whole of Gongola Basin, we seek to get the support of the federal government, so the pressure will be mounted on the Nigerian National Petroleum cooperation NNPC and the DPR for them to see to the fact that the exploitation oil and gas deposit that is available in Gombe and in fact the wider Gongola Basin is encouraged so that economic activities will be triggered, our people will have jobs and the Gombe will join the league of oil-producing states.”

The Governor said that one of the reasons for the meeting with the president was to show his solidarity over the way he (Buhari) has handed the COVID-19 pandemic, which he assured, would soon be a thing of the past.

He said, “My mission to Mr President is to show solidarity and compliments from the people of Gombe, especially from the way and manner he has been able to shoulder the big responsibility of managing this country, especially during the pandemic. We are even going out of the pandemic very soon.

“Just to congratulate and appreciative him for what he has been doing. It’s been quite long we met and I felt there is a need for us to meet and talk.

“Secondly, Gombe has been shouldering responsibility as regards IDPs and influx of people who because of the insurgency and displacement from the neighbouring states have relocated to Gombe. So, that puts a lot of stress on our resources both education, social environmental and what have you.

“And as a result, we are having a lot of issues and we need to share and seek guidance from Mr President as to how to manage the issues around insecurity and the people who have been displaced.

“The third one is the issue of flood affecting the whole country. Much as we don’t have rivers around Gombe but the flood around the river banks of Gongola, which is covering two of the local government areas has equally affected us and also resettlement of most of our people.

“But most importantly, because Gombe is situated between the valley and because of poor practices and lack of proper environmental management, gullies all have developed.

“You might have seen in the last few weeks, the effect of gully erosion in Gombe state. So, erosion upset has really devastated the lives of our people and has really become a problem and there is a need for us to seek support from the federal government.

“As at the moment, there are 200 active gullies in Gombe which have affected the lives and livelihoods of a lot our people. So, we brought that to the notice of Mr President for him to see how best he could attend and render some help especially from the ministry of environment, and more importantly, through the federal government understanding with the World Bank via the water management and watershed project which Gombe has keyed in but is yet take off.

“Once we are able to get that, we hope our problem of gully erosions will be solved partially if not fully.”

On the number of people displaced by flood, the governor said “Of recent, in two local governments we had about 3,200 families that have been dislocated. But we have been trying to provide alternatives.
“At the moment, we are designing layouts from which we will relocate all resettlements that are on flood plains and on gullies which are normally susceptible to floods.

“Those that have been displaced by insurgency have resettled amongst our people. As far as the issue of displaced persons is concerned, neighbouring Borno and Yobe, we have an arrangement for them to settle with our people, so we don’t have IDPS camps per se. So, people have acclimatized and have gotten used to living with our people and they are doing very well

Nengi alone with Ozo spotted in front of a building, Checkout what they were doingNaijacampusjams

Actually They never knew that a man was secretly recording them from a far distance

An anonymous man who appears to have been keeping eyes on Ozo and Nengi since they have left the house has finally spotted them together in front of a building in Abuja. The man was very surprised when he saw what they were doing so, he quickly sent the pictures on social media for everyone to also see. Since Ozo and Nengi left the house, many things have evolved over time. But, since these two left the house, something that seems not to have changed is the fact that Ozo is still chasing his dream with Nengi outside the house, despite all what he has seen and heard. The man is just a righteous man who will stand by whatever he wants and give in whatever it needs. Read this article patiently to get the full gist of what the person who took the pictures saw.

The Pictures Nengi took before she was spotted with Ozo

The person said he has been waiting at the entrance for quite a while before he saw them. He was inside his car and he posed there and avoids being seen by these two lovebirds. So, throughout the time they spent together at the entrance, they never knew that someone was watching them. He says he was secretly recording them in his vehicle. Due to the distance, the person could not hear what they were saying but he could tell from their gestures that they were really having a nice chat. The two of them were enjoying their conversation as Ozo keeps smiling as usual. Due to the long distance, it was really difficult to hear what they were saying but, many people have given this a whole lot of interpretation. Some people took to the comment section and said Ozo is still disturbing Nengi. Some claim that he is not disturbing her but they are really close now. From all the things that have also been happening, it is safe to conclude that they are both cool and they have reached a common ground. For now, it seems they are both focused on their career and in due course, something may later happen but for now, it is their career first. That is actually the best thing to chase right now. So, despite any narration that you must have heard that these two are no longer seeing each other, just know that they are still very good friends and they still talk behind cameras.

LASG task health workers on improved service delivery

LASG task health workers on improved service delivery

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi has tasked health workers in the State to ensure improvement in health service delivery to citizens, especially during public health crisis and outbreak of emerging and infectious diseases.

Speaking at the State Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme for health workers, which was held virtually and physically, the commissioner for health stated that improving quality healthcare service delivery during a public health crisis will significantly ensure effective management and control of any crisis.

He noted that the theme of the CME, “Improving Quality Healthcare Service Delivery During Public Health Crisis”, is apt, especially as the State needs to be at its optimal level in battling the global Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and other emerging infectious diseases that may arise.

Stressing that health workers in Lagos need constant development to keep up with the dynamic health needs of over 23 million people, the Commissioner stated that the CME programme was designed and implemented by the State government to build the capacity of its health workforce for qualitative, effective and enhanced service delivery.

He stated further that the initiative was also aimed at helping health workers keep abreast of current trends and issues in the health sector, adding that the programme will serve as an avenue for experts in the health sector to share experience and expertise on health issues that are evolving or significant.

In his words: “The CME programme is a very important forum in the health sector that provides an avenue for health workers to examine, address and share experiences on topical but current health issues. CME also affords us the opportunity to come together to examine and address issues that we do not understand, like COVID-19”.

“We can see from around the world that many countries are going through a second and third wave of the infection. It is difficult to predict what the future holds for us in Lagos, that is why it is important for us to keep abreast with what is going on abroad and continue to prepare ourselves”, Mr Abayomi said.

The Commissioner affirmed that the government remains committed to ensuring best practices in healthcare delivery across the State, especially through capacity building for its health workforce, maintaining that various policies and programmes, which will help ensure improved health service delivery and effective healthcare system, will be implemented whilst health workers’ welfare will always be on the front burner in order to achieve set objectives.

Speaking in the same vein, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, noted that the State government remains committed to ensuring best practice in healthcare delivery, assuring that government will continue to insist that the environment for the dispensation of medical care must be suitable for the promotion and maintenance of good health.

“The present administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains resolute in the tasks towards ensuring the delivery of qualitative care to citizens by upgrading infrastructure and improving skills of health workers through programmes like this”, he said.

The Director, Medical Administration and Training, Dr. Funmilayo Shokunbi, who appreciated the facilitators and the participants for their attendance and contributions, stated that the Ministry still has six more series of the CME lined up for the year as part of efforts to increase knowledge and capacity of health workers.

She charged all health workers to continue to avail themselves with the necessary knowledge that will enhance the discharge of their official duties and responsibilAdv

Police attack #EndSARS protesters in Abuja, disperse them with teargas

Police attack #EndSARS protesters in Abuja, disperse them with teargas

The protesters were chased off the roads and made to choke with teargas fumes.
Protesters clamouring for police reform in Nigeria; and for an end to the extra-judicial killings and brutality that have become the hallmark of SARS (Special Anti-Robbery Squad) have been met with teargas canisters in the nation’s capital city of Abuja.

“Protesters on their way to Police Force Headquarters have just been attacked by police officers with multiple teargas canisters shot into the crowd,”Demola, who tweets with the handle @OmoGbajabiamila, shared.

Another Twitter user @BrianJDenis said:“Police officers have opened fire at us with live bullets at Central Area, Abuja. Some people are injured because of panic."

@EdoFirstLady wrote:“The police have chased us all with teargas and guns. Everywhere is in shambles.”

Across Nigeria, young people have hit the streets while calling for an end to police tactical squads that have since gone rogue.

Protesters in the country’s commercial capital city of Lagos have been led by celebrities. There have been protests against police brutality in Ibadan, Delta State, Enugu, Port Harcourt and elsewhere.
The protests across the country have been largely peaceful, even though there have been tense moments between the protesters and police personnel intent on keeping the peace.

In the course of recent nationwide protests, a police officer pulled the trigger right inside the mouth of a woman in Opebi, Lagos, leaving her in a pool of her own blood.

The latest outrage against SARS led Police Inspector General, Mohammed Adamu, to announce a number of restrictions to their operations on Sunday, October 4, 2020.
According to the new measures, FSARS and other tactical squads are banned from carrying out routine patrols, and other conventional low-risk duties including stop and search duties, checkpoints, mounting of roadblocks, and traffic checks.

They are also banned from embarking on patrols or assignments without official uniform or tactical gear.

"The IGP has warned the tactical squads against the invasion of the privacy of citizens particularly through indiscriminate and unauthorized search of mobile phones, laptops and other smart devices.

"They are to concentrate and respond only to cases of armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes when the need arises,"an official statement read.

Police brutality has been a perennial concern in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country and largest economy.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajohas assured Nigerians that the issue is being addressed and that the police force will be reformed, but the excessive show of force on the streets and extra-judicial killings from police personnel haven't abated since Osinbajo first made the promise two years ago.

GOVORNOR AHMADU UMARI FINTIRI IS CONSTRUCTING, AND REHABILITATING OVER 700 SCHOOLS IN ADAMAWA STATE

HOW GOV FINTIRI IS CONSTRUCTING, REHABILITATING OVER 700 SCHOOLS IN ADAMAWA STATE

Basic Education in Adamawa State suffered years of neglect until the coming of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Fintiri was quick at efforts to  salvage the sector, first through accessing matching grants of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBE).

After payment of counterpart funding, the state government had accessed the UBE grants for 2016, 2017, 2018, and will get that of 2019 in the next two months which will pave way for additional massive turnaround in primary and junior secondary schools across the state.

The State Universal Basic Education Board ADSUBEB has commenced construction of a block of three classrooms and office in over 300 schools, and rehabilitation of classrooms and offices in 400 schools as well as construction of latrines in 87 schools.

The board has also supplied about 20,000 sets of tables, chairs, single and three-seaters in both primary and junior secondary schools, computers and internet facilities in nine schools, construction of new library/computer and admin blocks in 11 schools and construction of perimeter wall fencing in 10 schools.

The Executive Chairman of ADSUBEB, Dr Salihi Ateeku in an interview with newsmen in his office explained that there is also ongoing construction and rehabilitation in eighty schools across Fufore and Guyuk local government areas, a project financed by the state government and Unicef.

Dr Ateeku disclosed that some of the projects have been complete while others have reached advanced stages of completion.

He declared that by the time the matching grant for 2018 is exhausted, the basic education sector will get unprecedented change.

"Some of them are complete, some have reached more than 75% stage of completion. By the time we finished everything concerning 2018, the state will be boasting of more classrooms, much renovation, fencing, sports equipment, instructional materials, computers and others," he said.

He further reiterated that Governor Umaru Fintiri has already paid UBE counterpart funding for the 2019 matching grant while that of 2020 is in the pipeline and expressed the hope that in the next three years, Adamawa will get beyond what the Governor has promised of 5,000 new classrooms.

The Executive Chairman worried that the immediate past administration in Adamawa bastardized the education sector especially basic education.

"The scenario I met in this office was terrible. We have recently issued a contract for rehabilitation of this offices. We are making a facelift, the Governor in his magnanimity set up a committee for augmenting what we are getting here, the memo will be submitted soon," he explained.

He expressed concern on the condition of lack of promotions for primary school teachers among other issues and assured them that soon their problems will be surmounted, calling on people to support and pray for Governor Umaru Fintiri so that Adamawa will wax stronger.

Brace up for another recession with significant adverse consequence, President Buhari tells Nigerians 9 Oct 2020

Brace up for another recession with significant adverse consequence, President Buhari tells Nigerians
LindaikejisblogOct 9, 2020Read original

President Muhammadu Buhari said the country is heading for another recession, the second in four years.

He made this known yesterday, October 8, while presenting the 2021 budget to the National Assembly for approval. He noted, however, that the Federal Government has put in place plans to ensure rapid recovery in 2021.

He spoke against the backdrop of a significant increase in deficit beyond the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, following revenue pressures faced by the government.

He said: "The 2021 Budget was prepared amid a challenging global and domestic environment due to the persistent headwinds from the coronavirus pandemic.

"The resulting global economic recession, low oil prices and heightened global economic uncertainty have had important implications for our economy.

"The Nigerian economy is currently facing serious challenges, with the macroeconomic environment being significantly disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

"Real Gross Domestic Product, GDP, growth declined by 6.1 per cent in the second quarter of 2020. This ended the three-year trend of positive, but modest, real GDP growth recorded since the second quarter of 2017.

"I am glad to note that, through our collective efforts, our economy performed relatively better than that of many other developed and emerging economies."

He continued: "GDP growth is projected to be negative in the third quarter of this year. As such, our economy may lapse into the second recession in four years, with significant adverse consequences.

"However, we are working assiduously to ensure a rapid recovery in 2021. We remain committed to implementing programmes to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty over the next 10 years.

"As skills’ deficits limit employment opportunities in the formal economy, various skills’ development programmes are being implemented simultaneously to address this problem frontally.

"For instance, the government is implementing the Special Public Works programme to provide employment opportunities to 774,000 youths across the 774 local government areas of Nigeria.

"We have also recently introduced the N75 billion Nigeria Youth Investment Fund, of which N25 billion have been provided in 2021 Budget.

"We thank all Nigerians, for your perseverance and continued support during these difficult times. We remain unwavering in our commitment to actualize our vision of a bright future for everyone."

Against the backdrop of the revenue pressures faced by the Federal Government, the 2021 Appropriation Bill showed a significant increase in deficit beyond the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act.

The deficit, inclusive of government-owned enterprises and project-tied loans, is projected at N5.2 trillion, which represents 3.64 per cent of estimated Gross Domestic Product, GDP, 0.64 percentage point above the 3.0 per cent threshold set by the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007.

Explaining this position, Buhari, however, stated: "We still face the existential challenge of coronavirus pandemic and its aftermath; I believe that this provides a justification to exceed the threshold as provided for by the law."

Giving further details on the deficit, he said: "The deficit will be financed mainly by new borrowings totalling N4.28 trillion, N205.15 billion from Privatization Proceeds and N709.69 billion in drawdowns on multilateral and bilateral loans secured for specific projects and programmes."

NaijacampusjamsOct 4, 2020Read original

Two Police Men got into trouble today while they were harassing a young man at the popular Ikorodu Garage. According to the eyewitness and the video that we would share below, these officers stopped this young man and wanted to arrested him for no reason. The boy resisted the arrest which drew the attention of people who couldn’t save him from the police officers.

Fortunately, two soldiers were driving past when they saw what was happening. They Intervened and asked the police officers what was wrong but they couldn’t give a straight answer. The young man explained what happened to the soldiers and claimed that he did nothing wrong. This didn’t go down well with the soldiers as they rained slaps on the police officers.

The situation escalated very fast as the Soldiers beat up the police men while allowing the young man to leave.

Buhari will not restructure Nigeria – Presidency replies Adeboye, others

DailypostOct 5, 2020

The Presidency has reacted to the renewed calls by some individuals and socio-ethnic groups to restructure Nigeria.

Buhari in a statement signed by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, said his administration will not succumb to threats and undue pressure over the matter.

This is coming days after Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG urged President Muhammadu Buhari to restructure Nigeria to avoid the possibility of break up.

Some socio-cultural groups including Ohaneze Ndigbo and Afenifere, as well as Niger Delta agitators and individuals have renewed the call for restructuring of Nigeria.

Buhari dismissed the recurring threats as unpatriotic outbursts, adding that the government would not take any decision against the interest of 200 million Nigerians.

Part of the statement read: ”The Presidency responds to the recurring threats to the corporate existence of the country with factions giving specific timelines for the President to to do one thing or another or else, in their language, “the nation will break up.”

”This is to warn that such unpatriotic outbursts are unhelpful and unwarranted as this government will not succumb to threats and take any decision out of pressure at a time when the nation’s full attention is needed to deal with the security challenges facing it at a time of the Covid-19 health crisis.

”Repeat: this administration will not take any decision against the interests of 200 million Nigerians, who are the President’s first responsibility under the constitution, out of fear or threats especially in this hour of health crisis.”

Buhari added that as an elected leader under this constitution, he would continue to work with patriotic Nigerians in line with the Parliamentary processes to finding solutions to issues affecting the growth and wellbeing of the nation and its people.
